IS CBD OIL READY TO BE THE NEW STAPLE IN YOUR BABY’S NUTRITION?

The growing hype around cannabis oil is gradually penetrating the global market with an influx of diverse CBD products; from emollients claiming instant stress relief to innovative beauty products and chewing gums. While a substantial 42% of these items target women, it is important to measure the pros and cons of a substance essentially obtained from the cannabis plant, otherwise known to produce THC, which is marijuana’s most active ingredient.

Frequent users often buy CBD oil online regardless of the fact that none of the existing products are FDA approved yet. This poses a potential threat, especially to women who continue to use cannabis oil during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Although there does not exist a conclusive research on the ill effects, if any, of cannabis oil on a baby’s health, sustained usage of the same has been cited as a risk to be borne personally by the mother.

Despite the paucity of reliable study into the application of cannabis oil during pregnancy and breastfeeding, there are a few pieces of examination which come close to providing a definitive answer. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) suggests that women who are pregnant or contemplating pregnancy should not use marijuana or any of its byproducts, as it runs the risk of impacting the weight of the baby within the womb, possibly even obstructing the process of organ formation in the final trimester.

Another research states that exposure to marijuana could hinder the ongoing development of the fetal brain and increase the chance of the newborn being a stillbirth. The substances consumed during marijuana use can permeate through the breast milk and potentially affect the baby. Experts also claim that using marijuana could make nursing mothers somnolent and absent-minded, leading to the danger of having impaired judgement while looking after the infant. However, there is absence of cogent data to propose that cannabis oil, by itself, transfers the same risks as well.

On the other side of the coin, there is an equal number of studies which highlight the long-term benefits of CBD oil to its users. The most frequent consumers of cannabis oil are those seeking relief from nausea, pain, depression, insomnia, or anxiety. It is widely used as a dependable remedy for a range of more serious conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injury. The doctors do, nevertheless, caution that it can interfere with other medications and cause grave side effects. While proponents might reasonably argue that the active ingredients of medical marijuana and CBD oil online are entirely different in composition and effects, the bottom line is that they are all extracted from the same source.

CBD oil is a fairly new and principally unfettered market, meaning that in the absence of a regulating authority there is always an opportunity for unscrupulous products to enter the market, labelled as pure items while being laden with noxious substances. It is understandable that pregnancy is a difficult phase and could tempt you to try a popular product to ease the day. It is, therefore, imperative to consult a doctor before making a decision for you and your baby.
